Biography

Camille J. Mackler is an immigration attorney with twenty years of experience in removal defense, asylum, and federal immigration litigation. Her practice spans the full range of detained and non-detained representation, including proceedings before the Board of Immigration Appeals and the federal Courts of Appeals, as well as extensive work before DHS, USCIS, ICE, and EOIR.

Ms. Mackler began her career in private practice in New York, handling complex removal defense matters, family-based petitions, and citizenship and naturalization cases. In January 2017, she organized the legal response to the Muslim Travel Ban at JFK Airport, an effort that grew into the Immigrant Advocates Response Collaborative (Immigrant ARC), a statewide coalition of more than 80 legal service providers that she founded and led for the better part of a decade. Under her leadership, Immigrant ARC coordinated New York's legal response to a series of major humanitarian crises, including the resettlement of Afghan evacuees following the 2021 withdrawal from Afghanistan, the busing of recently arrived migrants to New York City, and the resettlement of Ukrainian refugees, among many other efforts on behalf of immigrant New Yorkers. Prior to I-ARC, Ms. Mackler was the Director of Immigration Legal Policy at the New York Immigration Coalition.

A graduate of Georgetown University and New York Law School, Ms. Mackler has maintained an active legal practice throughout her career, including sustained pro bono representation of immigrants in detention and removal proceedings.
